OpenAI, the company behind viral conversation AI ChatGPT, has introduced two new features to improve the user experience: archive chat and universal voice chat. These additions are intended to make conversations clearer and enable more natural vocal interactions.
Archive Chat allows users to delete conversations from their main chat view without deleting them completely. Chats can be archived from the Find Chats menu by tapping the three-dot menu and selecting “Archive.” Archived chats can then be accessed at any time from the Settings section.
This new organizational tool offers a cleaner chat interface without sacrificing conversation history. Users can neatly put away previous chats to focus on their current session. OpenAI announced the update on Twitter, saying: “You can now archive your chats in ChatGPT! Archive removes chats from your sidebar without deleting them.”
The archive feature is currently available on iOS and web versions of ChatGPT, with Android support coming soon.
In addition to archiving, OpenAI has also unlocked the voice chat capability for all mobile users, after initially limiting it to paying subscribers. Users can now enable hands-free calling by tapping the microphone icon next to the prompt bar.
On first use, a tutorial pop-up will appear to explain the feature. Users can then select a voice to personalize ChatGPT’s speech and talk fluently with their voice. This increases engagement by allowing for more natural back-and-forth interactions.
Previously, the voice chat feature required a paid ChatGPT Plus subscription. Opening access allows users to better take advantage of ChatGPT’s conversational strengths.
Both new features address user demand for more intuitive management and immersion. Archiving reduces clutter while preserving history, and voice chat makes dialogue more human. Together they mark a major upgrade with an emphasis on usability and personalization.
