Introduction
Microsoft Copilot is an AI assistant that helps developers write code more efficiently. It provides intelligent suggestions and additions as you type, based on the context of the code. Recently, Copilot integrated with another AI tool called Suno, allowing users to easily generate original music using text prompts.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to use Microsoft Copilot and Suno to easily create AI-generated melodies with just a few clicks. Whether you want to create a pop song, classical piece, or hip-hop track, Copilot’s music capabilities offer anyone an intriguing way to become an amateur music producer.

Make music with Microsoft Copilot
Requirements
To start making music with Copilot, you will need:
- A Microsoft account
- Access to the Microsoft Copilot preview (request access via copilot.microsoft.com)
- Enabled the Suno plugin in Copilot
The Suno integration is currently in preview, so you’ll have to wait for access if you don’t yet see the “Make Music with Suno” option in Copilot.
Enable the Suno plugin
Once you have access to the Suno plugin, enabling it is simple.
In Microsoft Copilot, look for a banner that says “Make music with Suno.” Click the button to launch the Suno plugin.
You can also click the plugin icon next to the Submit button in Copilot. Find Suno in the list and enable it. This will also activate the plugin.
That’s all you need to do to enable Suno’s music composition capabilities within Copilot!
Create your text prompt
The magic of Suno lies in your text prompt. Essentially you describe the type of music you want Suno to generate. The more descriptive your prompt is, the better the results will be.
During the preview, Suno works best for creating short melodies of up to 2 minutes. So take that length into account when formulating your text prompt.
Here are some examples of effective music cues:
- “Make a cheerful 1-minute pop song with piano, drums, bass and vocals about following your dreams”
- “Generate a sad emotional piano piece of 30 seconds in minor key”
- “Compose a 60 second hard rock song with electric guitars, bass, drums and vocals with an adventure theme”
As you can see, it helps to specify details such as:
- Genre (pop, rock, classical, etc.)
- Length
- Instruments/vocals to record
- Mood (happy, sad, etc.)
- Subject/theme
- Key (major, minor)
The more guidance you give Suno, the better the results will be. Don’t hesitate to get very descriptive with atmosphere, theme, instruments, tempo, and anything else relevant to conveying what you want to create.

Generate your song and listen to it
Once you’ve entered your text prompt, simply press Enter or click the prompt button, just as you would run code in Copilot.
Suno will immediately get to work generating an original tune based solely on your lyric description.
Within seconds, composing a song that matches what you asked for is completed. Amazingly, everything was created from scratch: lyrics, instrumentals, vocals and more.
Scroll down to see the lyrics, then press play next to the prompt output field to listen to your brand new AI-generated song!
As you listen, you can scroll through the lyrics and follow them if your song contains vocals.
Feel free to adjust the prompt and create multiple options until you get a song that fits what you envisioned.
Share and use your Copilot creations
Once you’ve created music you like with Suno in Copilot, there are a few things you can do with it:
- Listen and share – You can play your song directly in Copilot and listen to it as many times as you want. Feel free to share it on social media so others can hear your AI musical creation!
- Non-commercial use – Under Suno’s terms, you may use songs created with the free version for non-commercial purposes only. So you can use it as background music for videos, games, apps, etc., as long as they are not monetized.
- Buy the rights – If you would like to purchase a commercial use license, you can do so by upgrading to a paid Suno plan that starts at $24/month. This allows you to use the songs without restrictions.
Please note that you cannot download the music files directly or isolate the audio from Copilot. So, screen recording or capturing the audio output are your options to extract the songs from the web interface.
Limits
While Suno offers an incredibly simple way to have an AI assistant make music for you, there are some limitations to keep in mind:
- Length of the song – During the preview period, songs are limited to 2 minutes. No full numbers are generated.
- Sound quality – The quality of the songs is decent, but not as reliable as professionally produced music.
- Property – Suno owns the rights to all songs generated with the free version. You need a paid account to claim ownership.
- Access – Suno is rolling out slowly, so you may not have immediate access, even with a Copilot account.
Within the preview experience, songs are intended as short clips rather than full productions. But Suno shows the enormous potential of AI to help people quickly create compelling musical compositions.
Closing thoughts
Essentially, Microsoft Copilot, combined with Suno’s music creation capabilities, offers a glimpse into the future of AI-human collaboration. With a simple text description, anyone can easily turn their musical ideas into an actually produced song in seconds.
It may take some trial and error to create the right cues that generate something that matches the music you want. But once you master the effective guidance of Suno’s AI composer, you can unlock a whole new way to quickly bring your creative musical concepts to life.
Whether you want to create fun personal songs or perhaps use it as backing tracks for creative projects, Copilot and Suno remove virtually all technical barriers. Music composition is reduced to simply conveying descriptive details.
As the AI music generation continues to rapidly evolve, Microsoft has placed Copilot firmly at the forefront, allowing everyone to tap into these emerging technologies in the most accessible way. Unleashing AI to augment human creativity signals the innovative human-machine partnerships that will soon emerge.
