Musk’s previous education initiatives
While the size of the planned university is unprecedented, this isn’t Musk’s first foray into education. He previously founded Astra Nova, an experimental school at SpaceX headquarters. The nonprofit school enrolled Musk’s own five children.
Astra Nova focuses on problem-based learning through hands-on laboratories and projects neglected by traditional schools. It served as an early prototype for Musk’s favorite self-directed, experiential learning model.
Musk also briefly attended the University of Pretoria in South Africa before moving to Canada at the age of 18. He completed his bachelor’s degree in physics and business administration from the University of Pennsylvania.
